Nomma Zarubina, who was spying for Russia in the U.S., was arrested after sending a drunken message to an FBI agent saying, "Catch me, baby."
35-year-old Russian citizen Nomma Zarubina, living in New York, came to the forefront due to her actions that led to an unexpected development in a case involving the FBI. After being released following accusations of hiding her connections to Russian intelligence and providing false statements to the FBI, Zarubina sent countless inappropriate messages and photos to an FBI agent conducting the investigation while drunk throughout the night.
"CATCH ME, BABY"
According to prosecutors and court records, Zarubina intentionally sent texts that gave the impression of an emotional relationship with the agent while under the influence of alcohol, including phrases like "Catch me, baby." Some messages also included photos of herself with alcoholic beverages. FBI officials stated that Zarubina violated her bail conditions due to the continuous nature of these behaviors and her failure to stop despite warnings.
SHE HAD BEEN RELEASED ON BAIL
Zarubina had appeared before a federal judge in November 2024 for hiding her connection to Russian intelligence and providing false statements to the FBI. At that time, she had been released on bail, but was re-arrested in December 2025 for continuing inappropriate communication with the agent.
Federal prosecutors reported that Zarubina reached an agreement on charges of false statements and failure to cooperate with the FBI. Each of these charges carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 10 years, and the court's decision is expected to be announced on June 11.
