A 25% increase has been applied to electricity and natural gas. Following these increases, a tiered tariff system has been introduced for natural gas, categorized as Tier-1 and Tier-2, where "those who consume a lot will pay more." Residential subscribers in Tier-2, along with industrial facilities and power plants, will consume natural gas at a rate of 18,000 TL per 1,000 cubic meters. These residential subscribers will pay 132% more for their natural gas bills compared to the previous month. It is expected that at least 2.5-3 million subscribers will be affected by this implementation in the initial phase.
Expected price increases for electricity and natural gas have been implemented. The increases took effect today. BOTAŞ made a significant price hike for natural gas, taking into account the rising costs following the US-Israel-Iran war. It was also announced that a tiered pricing system for natural gas has been introduced. Accordingly, the average monthly gas consumption of the provinces has been determined. Households that consume more than 75% of this amount will pay for the gas they consume (without subsidy or support).
HERE IS THE APRIL TARIFF
BOTAŞ's natural gas sales tariffs effective from April 4, old/new prices, and increase rates per 1000 cubic meters are as follows:
- Residential tariff tier-1: The price, which was 7,772 TL in March, has increased by 37% to 10,625 TL.
- Residential tariff tier-2: All households were consuming natural gas at 7,772 TL in March. This price has been increased by 132% to 18,000 TL for tier-2.
- Bread producers: BOTAŞ did not increase the price of natural gas provided to bread producers. It has been kept fixed at 10,396 TL per 1000 cubic meters.
- Industrial tariff: The price, which was 15,000 TL in March, has increased by 20% to 18,000 TL.
- Electricity plants tariff: The price, which was 15,000 TL in March, has increased by 20% to 18,000 TL.
BILLS OF HIGH CONSUMERS WILL INCREASE
Household subscribers in tier-2, industrial establishments, and electricity plants will consume natural gas at 18,000 TL (per 1000 cubic meters). The sales price of BOTAŞ includes the shares of urban gas distribution companies (tier-1 and tier-2) and some taxes. Therefore, the unit gas price reflected to the subscriber will be higher.
Bills of household subscribers in tier-2 will increase. According to an expert's calculation, a bill that was previously 1,000 TL per month could rise to 2,500 TL. It is expected that at least 2.5-3 million subscribers will be affected by the implementation in the initial phase. In the following years, the 75% rate added to the average consumption will be gradually reduced. Over time, the number of subscribers affected by tier-2 will increase.
Sources from the Ministry of Energy stated that there is significant government support for natural gas and electricity in Turkey, saying, "Why should the state support the natural gas of a 7+1 mansion? It is crucial for the government to provide energy support to the economically correct segments."
