With the announcement of July inflation, millions of civil servants and retirees have turned their attention to the January 2027 raise rates. Evaluating the current data on a live broadcast, SGK Expert İsa Karakaş announced an expected raise of between 8.5% and 10.5% for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, and between 6.5% and 8% for civil servants and retired civil servants.
The critical process for the January 2027 raise rates, eagerly awaited by millions of civil servants and retirees, has begun. With the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announcing the July inflation figures, the first data of the six-month raise marathon has become clear. SSK Expert Isa Karakas shared his predictions regarding retired and civil servant raises with his assessments made during a live broadcast.
According to TUIK data, consumer inflation was 1.78 percent on a monthly basis in July, while annual inflation fell to 31.75 percent. The six-month inflation covering the July-December period will determine the January 2027 raise for SSK and Bag-Kur retirees. For civil servants and retired civil servants, an inflation difference will be added to the collective bargaining increase if conditions are met. Inflation data for the next five months are expected for the final rates.
HOW MUCH RAISE WILL SSK AND BAG-KUR RETIREES GET IN JANUARY?
SSK Expert Isa Karakas, who evaluated the developments on the TGRT News live broadcast, announced the raise range he predicts for SSK and Bag-Kur retirees in light of the Central Bank's year-end expectations and his own analyses. Karakas used the following statements: "Market expectations and my prediction are that the government will close the year with an annual inflation of around 29.5 percent. In this context, according to my latest analysis based on current data; SSK and Bag-Kur retirees will receive an update of at least 8.5 percent, and at most around 10 to 10.5 percent in January."
WHAT WILL BE THE RAISE RATE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS AND RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS?
Stating that the raise calculation for civil servants and retired civil servants differs due to collective bargaining and the inflation difference, Karakas emphasized that the situation is slightly more critical for this group. Regarding civil servant salary increases, Karakas noted: "The situation for civil servants and retired civil servants is slightly more critical due to the inflation difference. According to year-end expectations, I can say that we expect a raise/update of at least 6.5 percent and at most around 8 percent for our civil servants and retired civil servants in January."
IS IT MORE ADVANTAGEOUS TO RETIRE IN 2026 OR 2027?
Isa Karakas also warned employees waiting for the right time to submit their retirement petition, stating that he does not agree with the public discourse that "those who do not retire in 2026 will lose 26-30 percent." Emphasizing that the new inflation data should be awaited before making a decision, the expert said: "Unlike in previous years, there will not be a huge difference between those who submit their petitions in 2026 and 2027. In fact, if inflation comes in at 32 percent or above, submitting a petition in 2027 could become more advantageous."
