A 53-year-old woman living in Muğla was made to sign a debt note worth 2 million dollars by someone who said, "We are from the municipality, and we will provide food aid." The scammed woman exclaimed, "I don't have any money. They made me sign this under false pretenses. Who has seen dollars? We have never seen dollars in our lives. This person deceived my son and is trying to deceive me as well. They left us with nothing, ruined us, and finished us."

53-year-old Fatmana Altın, who resides in the Bodrum district of Muğla and lives with her son Sinan Altın (32), became a target of fraudsters. Fatmana Altın, who does not fully know how to read and write, was made to sign a debt of 2 million dollars by saying, "We are from the municipality, we will provide food aid." When she saw the promissory note with the payment order, Altın, who did not understand what was happening, said she could not remember when she signed the note.
“THEY SAID ‘WE WILL PROVIDE FOOD AID’”
Fatmana Altın stated that she was made to sign once by saying, "We are from the municipality, we will provide food aid," and that she was made to sign for mediation in a car in front of the courthouse, adding that she was not read what was written on the paper while signing both times. The lawyers of the Altın family filed a criminal complaint against D.Y. for forgery of official documents.
HE ALSO DEFRAUDED HER SON
According to the promissory note, it is claimed that D.Y., the person to whom Fatmana Altın owes 2 million dollars, made her son Sinan Altın, who had previously been reported as not having his mental faculties intact, sign a contract and bought two shares instead of one from their lands. The lawyers of the mother and son filed a lawsuit for the cancellation and registration of the title deed in court.
“THEY MADE ME SIGN WITH LIES”
The mother and son, who have difficulty expressing the events they experienced fluently, claimed that they were defrauded. Fatmana Altın described what happened to her, saying, “They sent a woman to me with lies and made me sign. I did not use the signature elsewhere. They made me sign by saying, ‘We will give food.’ They said, ‘We will bring food from the municipality, sign this paper.’ They said, ‘Money will come, help will come to you,’ and made me sign. After that, the woman got up and left. They also made me sign in front of the courthouse. They said, ‘Sign this, this signature has no effect.’ They did not let me read it.”
“I HAVE NEVER SEEN DOLLARS IN MY LIFE”
Fatmana Altın, who said she has never seen dollars in her life, continued her words as follows:
“I have no money. They made me sign this with lies. Who has seen dollars? We have never seen dollars in our lives. This person deceived my son and is trying to deceive me as well. They left us with nothing, they ruined us, they finished us.”
WHILE TRYING TO SELL ONE TITLE DEED, THEY SOLD TWO
Sinan Altın, who was reported by Bodrum State Hospital as not having his mental faculties intact, stated that he was made to sign without having the paper read to him and that while trying to sell one title deed, he was made to sell two. He expressed the following:
“They took me to buy alcohol at one o'clock in the night. There was a woman with them too. They forced me there and made me sign without reading the paper. They said, ‘No need to read,’ and covered the paper with their hands. While we wanted to sell a place, they made us sign for every place we had. They even made us sign again, saying it was not valid. This incident happened 4 years ago, in 2021. They gave us about 100 thousand lira. They did not give it to us properly either.”
DEFENSE FROM THEIR LAWYERS REGARDING RESTRICTION
In the last hearing of the title deed cancellation and registration case held at Bodrum 3rd Civil Court, D.Y.'s lawyers stated that the report regarding Sinan Altın's mental faculties was given after the sale and expressed, “The restriction decision is related to after the date of sale. Even if we assume for a moment that the plaintiff had mental weakness, mental weakness alone is not a sufficient and valid reason for restriction. Necessary precautions can be taken by appointing a legal advisor, and there are multiple sales made by the plaintiff to different people before the sale to the defendant. When the sales in the file are examined, there is a health report obtained from psychiatry for a sale made to another person. Two letters were sent to the Ministry of Health regarding mental health, but the reports received stated that there was no record in both cases. The other party has not presented such a report and record, and there is also evidence in the file that Sinan Altın worked as an insured person in a hotel. The appointment of a guardian is not a situation that prevents or affects the sale; the appointment of a guardian is a decision made after the sale, and the case should be dismissed.”
THE SUSPECT ALSO ACCUSED THE MOTHER AND SON
The court panel ruled that a letter should be written to the Bodrum Social Security Institution to request Sinan Altın's insurance service statement, and also that the file should be sent to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Council to prepare a report on whether the plaintiff Sinan Altın had legal capacity for the real estate shares in question as of October 7, 2021.
On the other hand, the person named D.Y. accused Fatmana Altın and her son Sinan Altın of stealing a bag containing money and gold. In the incident reflected in the court, the prosecutor requested an acquittal for Fatmana Altın and her son.
