In the Bornova district of İzmir, inspections were carried out at two different cold storage facilities following a tip-off. During the inspections, 7 tons of expired, moldy, and spoiled cheese and cheese products were destroyed.

A total of 7 tons and 12 kilograms of cheese and cheese-like products identified were destroyed at a solid waste facility under the supervision of the Provincial Directorate personnel. Legal action has been initiated regarding the cold storage facilities.

In a statement made on the social media account of the General Directorate of Food and Control, the following expressions were included: "Upon a notification, inspections were carried out by our control officer teams at two different cold storage facilities operating in the Bornova district of İzmir."

EXPIRED AND MOLDY PRODUCTS IDENTIFIED



During the inspections, unreliable foods (cheese and cheese-like products, butter, cream, cottage cheese, teleme, products similar to tomato paste, animal fats, etc.) that were expired, unlabeled, moldy, and spoiled were identified. The products were placed under protection. Legal action has been initiated under Law No. 5996.



In this context, 7,012 kg of cheese and cheese-like products placed under protection were destroyed at a solid waste facility under the supervision of the Provincial Directorate personnel on May 13, 2025. Our inspections for food safety continue uninterrupted."
