37 suspects were detained in an operation targeting the laundering of illegal betting and gambling revenues across 9 provinces centered in Istanbul. Within the scope of the organization, where a transaction volume of approximately 30 billion lira was detected, 32 companies, 19 residences, 9 plots of land, 1 workplace, and 31 vehicles were confiscated. The operation, carried out following President Erdogan's message "We will uproot them," was considered the latest step in the fight against illegal betting and cyber fraud networks.
In an operation organized across 9 provinces centered in Istanbul, 37 suspects were detained for laundering illegal betting and gambling revenues. As part of the organization, which was determined to have reached a transaction volume of approximately 30 billion lira, 32 companies and numerous assets were seized.
MASAK REPORTS TRIGGERED ACTION
Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch initiated an investigation under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the laundering of illegal betting and gambling revenues.
Following financial analysis reports prepared by MASAK, bank transactions, and technical and physical surveillance, an organized structure was identified for introducing, laundering, and transferring criminal proceeds to the financial system and abroad.
30 BILLION LIRA TRANSACTION VOLUME
Financial investigations revealed that the companies subject to the investigation reached a transaction volume of approximately 30 billion lira. It was determined that this cash flow was inconsistent with the declared commercial activities of the individuals and companies.
The decision to conduct the operation was based on MASAK reports, bank records, digital examinations, communication records, and other evidence.
SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION IN 9 PROVINCES
A simultaneous operation was carried out at identified addresses in Istanbul-centered provinces including Ankara, Gaziantep, Hatay, Izmir, Kilis, Kirklareli, Kocaeli, and Tokat. During the operation, 37 suspects were apprehended and detained.
32 COMPANIES SEIZED
Judicial measures were also applied to assets deemed to have been obtained through crime as part of the investigation. Accordingly, 19 residences, 9 plots of land, 1 commercial property, 31 motor vehicles, and 32 companies were seized. It was reported that legal proceedings against the suspects are ongoing.
ERDOGAN HAD GIVEN A MESSAGE OF STRUGGLE
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his recent statements, emphasized their determination in the fight against illegal betting, virtual gambling, and fraud networks, using the phrase "We will eradicate them" regarding these structures.
The latest operation is seen as the most recent chapter in the state's comprehensive struggle against illegal betting and cyber fraud networks.
