After the former leader of CHP, Kılıçdaroğlu, denied that İBB Mayor İmamoğlu had requested a meeting with him, saying "All of that is nonsense. There is no such thing," İmamoğlu also made a statement. "I am amazed by the interest in this dinner," said İmamoğlu, using the words "We meet, and will meet, with our former party leader from the previous term." İmamoğlu also said, "The fact that this has turned into such an incident is disturbing for the CHP community."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu commented on his upcoming meeting with former CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu, saying, "I am amazed by the interest in this meal. We will meet with our former party leader, we will meet."
"DISTURBING THE CHP COMMUNITY"
Speaking at the 2024 launch of the European Mobility Week celebrated between September 16-22 at the Union of Turkish Municipalities, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İmamoğlu made important statements regarding the re-emergence of his meeting with former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Answering journalists' questions, İmamoğlu said about his meeting with Kılıçdaroğlu, "I am amazed by the interest in this meal. We will meet with our former party leader, we will meet. The fact that this has turned into such an event is disturbing the CHP community.
"ECONOMY IS MORE IMPORTANT"
We meet and have tea, coffee, and meals with both our Party Leader Özgür Özel and our former party leaders Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. This is part of our party culture and our human dialogue. I think what really needs to be wondered about is not the meal we will have, but what our citizens and our society cannot eat in their meals. I think the economy and other issues are more important," he evaluated.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, during his meeting with Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, responded to journalists' question "Will you meet with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu?" with "I don't know about that, friends. If there is a demand, of course, we will meet. They are our party members. They are not foreigners or someone else. We will sit down, talk."
Kılıçdaroğlu also commented on the words "İmamoğlu said he made an appointment, and a meeting is expected tomorrow." with "All of those are false. There is no such thing. When such an event happens, Mr. Mayor calls and specifies the day he will come. We talk beforehand according to that. My schedule and his schedule have to be suitable. We sit down and talk within that framework. We also have our meal. We celebrated the holiday together," he said.
