In a fire that broke out in the early morning in Alaşehir, Manisa, 91-year-old Kamil Zeybek and his 89-year-old wife Ayşe Zeybek lost their lives.
A fire broke out in the single-story house where retired forest guard Kamil Zeybek (91) and his wife Ayşe Zeybek (89) live in the Osmaniye Alley of Hacıbey Neighborhood in Alaşehir district of Manisa early in the morning. Upon the notification of neighbors who heard an explosion and saw the fire, fire, medical, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The fire, which was extinguished by the fire department, completely burned one room of the house and its roof.
THE FIRE IS THOUGHT TO HAVE STARTED FROM THE OXYGEN TANK
The couple's grandson, Özcan Zeybek, told reporters that his grandmother had a lung condition and used an oxygen tank, saying, "It exploded for an unknown reason; my grandfather managed to get to the front door but couldn't open it." Fire department officials stated that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the explosion sound heard may have been due to the oxygen tank exploding because of the fire.
The bodies were sent to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy.
