In the Yüreğir district of Adana, the dumping of horse and donkey remains into the riverbed by unidentified individuals has caused outrage among the local residents. Citizens, who complained about the strong odor spreading in the area and the increasing fly problem, stated that the situation poses a significant threat to both health and the environment.
In the Bahçelievler neighborhood of the Yüreğir district in Adana, the remains of horses and donkeys that were cut are being thrown into an open wastewater stream, drawing the reaction of the citizens.
The unbearable smell, especially in hot weather, seriously diminishes the quality of life. This situation poses a significant threat to both health and the environment.
"THERE IS A DISASTROUS SMELL HERE"
One of the citizens, Mehmet Mustafa Köroğlu, stated, "They are throwing horse and donkey bones here. This place has become uninhabitable. We don't even know who to complain to. We have complained 50 times but have not received any results. We are left helpless. There is no need to describe this place; even from the road, you can see bones everywhere. There is a disastrous smell here. Our doors and windows are closed all year round. We cannot escape from illness due to the smell and flies," he said.
"INSTALL SECURITY CAMERAS TO IDENTIFY WHO IS THROWING THEM"
Another resident, Rıdvan Dağlıgül, explained that security cameras should be installed in the stream to identify those who are cutting horses and donkeys, and continued: "It has become impassable here. There is now an unlivable environment. The smell, flies, and disease have made it unbearable. The water is not flowing anyway. There is no limit to the filth being thrown here. They throw horse and donkey remains here in the early morning. If we see those who throw them, we would intervene. We want security cameras to be installed here. It can be identified who is throwing them from there. We kindly request the authorities to focus on this issue."
"UNFORTUNATELY, THEY ARE FEEDING OUR PEOPLE"
Dağlıgül said, "They are cutting these horses and donkeys and unfortunately feeding them to our people. We may have unknowingly eaten them too. The number of these cuts is uncertain. Dogs are coming to these carcasses. Children can no longer go to school," he stated.
The neighborhood residents want the problem to be solved as soon as possible and for the stream to be regularly monitored.
