In Antalya, air temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius are causing handwoven products to become more pastel, turning agricultural fields into a "carpet field." Local and foreign tourists are flocking to the region to see the colorful fields.

With the end of the harvest season in the agricultural lands of Döşemealtı district in Antalya, a different kind of activity is taking place.
FIELDS COVERED WITH CARPETS AND RUGS
Old carpets and rugs, woven with various motifs, especially Yörük motifs, dyed with root dyes collected from different provinces of Turkey, are laid out in the fields. Workers who worked for days in the fields for the harvest of agricultural products in spring are now sweating under 40-degree heat to ensure that the colors of the carpets and rugs fade into pastels and are purified from microbes.
ENSURING MORE PASTELIZATION
Occasionally, carpets that are turned upside down or curled due to the wind are immediately straightened and regularly cleaned of dust. The scorching heat affecting the city ensures that the carpets pastel more. The carpets and rugs that spend the summer under the Antalya heat are collected starting from September and sent to sales regions abroad.
"CARPETS ARE SPENDING THE SUMMER UNDER THE ANTALYA HEAT"
Ayşe Akbaba, the field manager of the company that trades in handwoven carpets laid in the agricultural lands of Döşemealtı district, stated that the carpets and rugs collected from different regions of Anatolia are washed, dried, and then repaired.
Akbaba mentioned that the carpets are carefully laid out in the fields to ensure their colors pastel, saying, "The carpets are spending the summer under the Antalya heat. The scorching heat that is effective these days negatively affects people, but it ensures that the carpets pastel more and earlier. These carpets attract more interest abroad."
BECAME A POPULAR SPOT FOR TOURISTS
Akbaba expressed that working in hot weather is difficult, stating that they regularly turn the carpets upside down after laying them in the fields, which is why they are in a busy work schedule. She noted that the carpet fields are recognized in Turkey and that local and foreign tourists come every day to take photos.
"CARPETS ARE LITERALLY BECOMING MORE BEAUTIFUL UNDER THIS HEAT"
One of the workers, Hacer Çukur, stated that she comes to the carpet field every morning to lay the carpets and rugs out in the sun one by one. Çukur mentioned that the hot weather is challenging for them, saying, "The heat is tough for us, but it's good for the carpets. The carpets are literally becoming more beautiful under this heat."
