WHAT HAPPENED?
There are occasional violent clashes between the Fulani tribe, which is engaged in livestock farming, and some farming tribes in Benue State. In attacks carried out by Fulani herdsmen on June 2, 43 people lost their lives in the Gwer West and Edikwu Akpali regions of the state.
The Fulanis, who migrate to different regions of the country to graze their animals, claim that farmers are trying to steal their livestock and are attacking them. Armed gangs also take advantage of these conflicts to carry out attacks and threaten the local population.
