The incident occurred around 4:00 PM in front of a business at the Turgut Özal Underground Bazaar on Melik Ahmet Street in the Sur district. According to allegations, specialist sergeant Muhammed Recai Işık shot his estranged wife Bedriye Işık, with whom he was in the process of divorce, using the gun he brought with him, seriously injuring her.

The specialist sergeant then put the gun to his head and fired. Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
