In the case of Hamdi Karakuş, who disappeared in Eskişehir in 2006, a significant development occurred in the re-opened file years later. As a result of the detailed investigation conducted by JASAT teams, 8 of the suspects detained on suspicion of murder were arrested, while new findings regarding the background of the incident were added to the file.

An important stage has been reached in the investigation regarding Hamdi Karakuş, who went missing in 2006 in the Günyüzü district of Eskişehir. While 8 of the 12 individuals detained on suspicion of murder were arrested, 2 suspects were released under judicial supervision.

20-YEAR-OLD FILE TAKEN OFF THE SHELF

Hamdi Karakuş, who lived in the rural Çardaközü neighborhood and disappeared on April 1, 2006 at the age of 42, had not been heard from since. Despite search efforts conducted at the time, many non-prosecution decisions were issued in the case.

JASAT REOPENED THE FILE

JASAT teams under the Eskişehir Provincial Gendarmerie Command re-examined the file about three years ago. Investigations revealed that Karakuş had feuds with some individuals and was assaulted before his disappearance.

DNA EVIDENCE STRENGTHENED SUSPICIONS

As part of the investigation, an examination of the plastic grip of a rifle seized during the incident period found DNA traces belonging to Karakuş. This evidence strengthened the suspicion of murder.

12 DETENTIONS, 8 ARRESTS

After lengthy efforts, 12 suspects were detained. Following processes at the gendarmerie, 2 individuals were released, and of the 10 suspects sent to court, 8 were arrested, while 2 suspects were released under judicial supervision.
