The Malatya Administrative Court annulled the decision of the Ministry of Trade that prohibited hairdressers from providing services on Sundays, recognizing the right of hairdressers to work on Sundays in the case filed by tradesman Şener Eroğlu. As a result of the lawsuit initiated by Şener Eroğlu, the judiciary has supported the freedom of tradespeople.
In Malatya, an important judicial decision was made regarding the opening of hairdressers on Sundays. Şener Eroğlu, a hairdresser operating in Malatya Park Shopping Center, had applied to the court against the Ministry of Commerce's decision to keep hairdressers closed on Sundays and won. The judiciary evaluated Eroğlu's application, annulled the Ministry of Commerce's decision, and issued a stay of execution.
HAIRDRESSERS IN MALATYA WILL BE ABLE TO WORK ON SUNDAYS In Malatya, the Ministry of Commerce's decision prohibiting hairdressers from providing services on Sundays was deemed invalid by the judiciary. In the case filed by Şener Eroğlu, who works in Malatya Park Shopping Center, the Malatya Administrative Court issued a stay of execution and lifted the obstacle preventing hairdressers from being open on Sundays.
COURT ANNULLED THE MINISTRY'S DECISION The decision issued by the Ministry of Commerce was supported by the Malatya Chamber of Hairdressers before the February 6 earthquake, but many administrative courts across the country had suspended the execution of the decision. According to the ruling of the judiciary, hairdressers who wish to work on Sundays will continue to exercise this right.
Hairdressers in Malatya, especially after the lawsuit filed by Şener Eroğlu, obtained the right to work on Sundays. The stay of execution decision given by the Malatya Administrative Court was also upheld by the Gaziantep Regional Administrative Court. With the decision dated January 14, 2025, the validity of the decision made by the Malatya Administrative Court was confirmed.
The objections of the Ministry of Commerce and the Malatya Governorship were rejected by the Gaziantep Regional Administrative Court. Additionally, the Malatya Chamber of Hairdressers faced backlash for providing false information to the public and interfering in the judicial process while it was ongoing. Şener Eroğlu and other hairdressers demanded respect for judicial decisions and support for tradespeople. Eroğlu stated, "We condemn this prohibitive attitude that puts tradespeople struggling to survive in the earthquake zone in a difficult position and oppose the misinformation to the public." Eroğlu emphasized that being open on Sundays defends both the citizens' right to receive services and the freedom of tradespeople to work.
