The Chairman of the CHP, Özgür Özel, made a self-criticism regarding the re-nomination of the former Mayor of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, Lütfü Savaş, despite the controversies surrounding it in the local elections on March 31. Özel stated, "As the Chairman, I am making a self-criticism in Hatay, and I apologize."
CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel visited the Defne Municipality in Hatay on the second anniversary of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6.

Speaking to citizens in front of the municipal building, Özel made a self-criticism regarding the re-nomination of the former Mayor of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, Lütfü Savaş, despite the controversies in the local elections on March 31. Özel stated, "As the General Chairman of the party, I am making a self-criticism in Hatay for the Hatay Metropolitan elections, for the Samandağ elections, and for all the district elections that we needed to win but could not win, and I apologize."
"IT SEEMS WE WERE IN A MISTAKE THAT WOULD LOSE THE ELECTION"
Özel's statement regarding the issue is as follows: "We know the delays and turbulences in the candidate selection process. We were meticulous to find the right answer in the survey to do the right thing. But it seems we were in a mistake that would lose the election, as Hatay has judged. As the General Chairman of the party, I am making a self-criticism in Hatay for the Hatay Metropolitan elections, for the Samandağ elections, and for all the district elections that we needed to win but could not win, and I apologize.
