Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak emphasized the importance of ensuring that students of compulsory education age, who are frequently absent or do not attend school at all, continue their education by reminding relevant laws and regulations, and instructed that the issue of absenteeism should be treated as a priority.

PARENTS WHO DO NOT SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL WILL BE WARNED FIRST

In a letter sent to district governorships signed by Governor Şıldak, it was stated that for students with chronic absenteeism, school administrations should notify parents who do not send their children to school via text message on the fifth day of absenteeism, and on the tenth day, a letter regarding the absenteeism should be sent to the family via registered mail. Schools that have not carried out these two processes for students with chronic absenteeism so far are requested to carry out these procedures in order.

IF THEY INSIST ON NOT SENDING, A FINE OF 11,997 LIRA WILL BE IMPOSED

Despite warnings from school administrations, District National Education Directorates, and district governorships, if the student does not continue to attend school, parents will be fined 257 TL for each day the student does not attend, according to Article 56 of the Primary Education and Education Law No. 222. Parents who still do not send their children to school despite this fine will face an administrative fine of 11,977 TL.

REQUESTED TO BE IMPLEMENTED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE

Finally, the letter requested that the implementations specified in the laws to ensure that all students of compulsory education age continue their education be carried out as quickly as possible by district governorships in all districts, and that the tasks and processes be monitored by the respective superiors.

"EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO RECEIVE EDUCATION AT SCHOOL"

In the statement, Governor Şıldak expressed that they are trying to identify the problems in education correctly and find the right solutions in Şanlıurfa, which has the youngest population in Turkey. Governor Şıldak stated: "The issue of absenteeism unfortunately stands out as one of the fundamental problems of Şanlıurfa. Currently, there is a chronic absenteeism rate of about 10% in primary and secondary schools and nearly 20% in high schools, and we are making great efforts to ensure that our students do not fall behind in their education. However, despite all the information and warnings provided, if there is insistence on absenteeism, we will start to implement the penal procedures required by the legislation from now on. All our schools will carry out the administrative fine procedures as stipulated in the law, and these fines will be enforced by our district governorships. I would like to inform all parents about this matter once again. Every child deserves to receive education at school. Let’s ensure that all our children at primary, secondary, and high school levels continue their education. We do not want any parent to face a monetary fine."
