The Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, shared the latest data regarding the earthquake measuring 6.2 that occurred in Istanbul on April 23. Minister Kurum stated that out of the 15,013 buildings examined, 1,025 had minor damage.
On April 23, Wednesday, at 12:49, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara. While the aftershocks of the earthquake, which caused great fear, continue, the Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, shared the latest data.
"1025 BUILDINGS SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE"
Minister Kurum stated that they examined 15,013 buildings in Istanbul after the earthquake. The institution announced that 12,398 of these buildings were undamaged and 1,025 had minor damage, saying, "We are evaluating the reports from our citizens following the earthquakes in Istanbul and continuing the damage assessment work."
445 AFTERSHOCKS RECORDED
The Kandilli Observatory announced in its information note regarding the 6.2 earthquake that the aftershocks had reached 445 by April 26. The statement indicated that the aftershocks were generally concentrated in an area of 15-20 kilometers between the Central Marmara and Kumburgaz segments. It was emphasized in the statement that aftershocks would continue for a while in the coming days, and a warning was issued to pay attention to the announcements of the relevant institutions and not to enter risky buildings.
