The reasoned decision was announced in the case where Ozan Güven was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Deniz Bulutsuz by hitting her with a lampshade and his hands. In its reasoned decision, the court stated that it considered the lampshade as a 'weapon', that Güven's defense aimed at escaping the crime and punishment was not taken into account, and that it was accepted that Bulutsuz engaged in physical actions against Güven in order to fend off the attack against her.
The case in which actor Ozan Güven was tried for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend Deniz Bulutsuz with a lampshade and his hands on June 13, 2020, was concluded in June 2025. The court sentenced Ozan Güven to 2 years and 3 months in prison for 'intentional injury with a weapon', while ruling for his acquittal on charges of 'deprivation of liberty' and 'insult'. Additionally, Deniz Bulutsuz was also acquitted of the charge of 'simple injury' against Ozan Güven. The reasoned decision in the case was announced by the Istanbul 58th Criminal Court of First Instance. It was stated that Güven's defense aimed at escaping the crime and punishment was not taken into account.
DISPUTE TURNED INTO A FIGHT In its reasoned decision, the court stated that Ozan Güven and Deniz Bulutsuz went to the house of their mutual friend, witness Ramazan Çelik, where during a conversation, Bulutsuz mentioned her previous relationship, and later they moved to Güven's house, where their argument escalated while they were alone. The reasoned decision noted that during the argument, Güven assaulted Bulutsuz with a lampshade and his hands, and according to the report obtained from the assault, Bulutsuz was injured in various parts of her body in a way that could not be resolved with simple medical intervention. It was recorded that Güven's defense aimed at escaping the crime and punishment was not taken into account and that he had committed the crime of 'intentional injury with a weapon'. It was emphasized that there was insufficient evidence for the two charges other than Bulutsuz's testimony.
VIDEO RECORDS EMERGED In the announced reasoned decision, it was stated that in the evaluation regarding the charges of 'deprivation of liberty' and 'insult', there was no concrete and sufficient evidence other than the victim's testimony, that Bulutsuz went to the house voluntarily, continued to stay there voluntarily, and that there were video recordings showing she ran out of the house barefoot after the assault incident. It was also noted that there was no witness statement regarding the commission of the 'insult' crime, nor was there any video recording.
In the reasoned decision, regarding the injury charge against Deniz Bulutsuz, it was evaluated that the first physical contact was made by Ozan Güven with the lampshade aimed at Bulutsuz's chin, and that Bulutsuz engaged in physical actions against Güven in order to prevent the assault against her, which was accepted as being done to fend off the attack. It was stated that in this situation, Bulutsuz acted in a proportionate manner while defending against the attack.
