CHP Istanbul Deputy Oğuz Kaan Salıcı reacted strongly to the words of party leader Özgür Özel, "No one should demand a congress from me."

In a statement he made on his social media account, CHP Istanbul Deputy Oğuz Kaan Salıcı noted: "I am sadly observing the debate opened by the party policies being implemented with the decisions of our esteemed party leader, among all levels of our party and among our voters. Our comrades in struggle from Edirne to Kars are sharing their concerns about our party's political direction with me and my friends. My aim is not to engage in polemics with our esteemed party leader. I also do not find it appropriate for our esteemed party leader to engage in polemics with a member of parliament through the press."

"THE ELECTION WAS NOT WON WITH A PROMISE OF NORMALIZATION"

It is evident that the normalization process, which has caused discomfort among our party members, has provided Erdoğan with very valuable time after the local election he lost. Nevertheless, the reason for defending normalization on every platform remains unclear. The promise of 'normalization' was neither mentioned at the Congress nor before the March 31 elections. The election was not won with a promise of normalization. The claim that the Republican People's Party has pursued an 'abnormal' policy towards voters who voted for the ruling party in the recent past can only belong to the supporters of the government.

While shaking hands with Erdoğan and joking with Bahçeli as a 'requirement of politics', the 'strategic' expectation in opening a front with the Turkey Workers' Party, which views life from the left, in a disparaging language is being questioned. While an investigation into bribery allegations is ongoing in the United States, the reason for endorsing Erdoğan needs to be explained.

The Republican People's Party is not losing votes because there is a debate about the congress; on the contrary, the debate about the congress is taking place because votes are being lost. The reason for the vote loss should be sought in the policies that are not politically accepted at the grassroots level. The Republican People's Party is not a party established by conducting polls. It does not determine its politics based on poll results. In the Republican People's Party, a congress is not a privilege; it is a right. If necessary, a congress is held in the Republican People's Party.

Our esteemed party leader has also become a candidate for party leader by putting forward the thesis of base contraction after the general elections and stating that our party needs a congress. Every party leader of the Republican People's Party is extremely respected. No one should beg me for a congress at the expense of thinking about the party's votes. Those who have the power should go to the congress, but there is no such power... Even at the best congress, we lose power because the party turns inward. My job is to force Erdoğan into early elections; someone else's job is to force me into a congress, but they have no power and are asking me. They are begging me. You have no power, no strength, no authority. The organization you crushed in the past is now against you, not by your side. You have turned around and are demanding a congress from me. The party will again debate itself, and Erdoğan will breathe. Those who have the power should come forward; they should not demand from me."
