Deputy Minister of Interior Mehmet Sağlam stated that 116,341 body cameras are actively used across Turkey and that this technology increases the accountability of security forces. According to 2025 data, the effectiveness of the processes carried out in Law Enforcement Complaint Offices and disciplinary procedures was emphasized.
Sağlam, who came to Iğdır for contacts, met with Governor Mustafa Fırat Taşolar at the Governorship. In a statement to journalists, Sağlam provided information about the Law Enforcement Oversight Commission. Emphasizing that the Law Enforcement Oversight System was implemented with Law No. 6713, Sağlam said, "As of today, there are 1,007 Law Enforcement Complaint Offices operating across the country. A total of 2,851 personnel are working in these offices. In Iğdır province, a total of 12 personnel are working in the Law Enforcement Complaint Offices established at the Governorship and 3 district governorships to ensure that the process is carried out effectively, orderly, and uninterrupted."
"21,649 COMPLAINT RECORDS ARE UNDER PROCESS"
Touching on statistical data regarding Law Enforcement Complaint Offices, Sağlam stated, "In 2025, the total number of records in Turkey is 67,226, of which 47,577 have been concluded. The processes for 21,649 records are still ongoing. Looking specifically at Iğdır province, the total number of records in 2025 is 242, of which 177 have been concluded, and the processes for 65 records are still ongoing. As a result of the investigations and disciplinary inquiries conducted in Iğdır in 2025, different types of disciplinary penalties were imposed on 110 law enforcement personnel." he said.
"SECURITY FORCES IN TURKEY ARE ACTIVELY USING 116,341 BODY CAMERAS"
Sağlam, who stated that technology is also effectively used in law enforcement supervision, continued: "The effective use of technology has become an indispensable element of security and accountability today. In this context, body cameras stand out as a concrete guarantee of transparency, trust, and justice for both our citizens and our law enforcement personnel. Today, across the country, 65,104 body cameras are actively used in the General Directorate of Security, 50,000 in the Gendarmerie General Command, and 1,237 in the Coast Guard Command. Looking specifically at Iğdır, I am pleased to express that there are 65 body cameras in our security units and 138 in our gendarmerie units that are actively in use."
Noting that complaints are examined more objectively and fairly thanks to body cameras, Sağlam stated, "It is also an important assurance that protects law enforcement personnel against unjust and unfounded accusations. Additionally, we observe that this application positively affects the communication language in the field, contributing to a more careful, measured, and respectful approach towards citizens. As the Law Enforcement Oversight Commission, we made a recommendation decision in August to promote the widespread use of body cameras. The continuation of this application across the country will not only increase citizen satisfaction but also further strengthen the institutional reputation of our law enforcement organizations." he said.
