A woman in Amasya, whose belly grew like that of a nine-month pregnant woman in just two months, had an 8.5-kilogram mass removed. The mass, which completely surrounded her abdomen, caused her to experience shortness of breath and difficulty in movement. She regained her health after a successful operation.
A woman who applied to the hospital after her belly grew like a 9-month pregnant woman in just 2 months had an 8.5-kilogram mass removed from her. Doctors, surprised to see the watermelon-sized mass, emphasized that late detection of masses formed in the ovaries or uterus poses life-threatening risks, advising women to have a general check-up with a gynecologist every 6 months or once a year.
A 30-CENTIMETER DIAMETER 8.5-KILOGRAM MASS WAS REMOVED
Şule Akgül, a farmer from the Göynücek district of Amasya, experienced rapid growth in her belly in just 2 months. The married mother of three, who appeared to be 9 months pregnant and began to experience shortness of breath, applied to Amasya University Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Training and Research Hospital. During the examinations, a mass completely surrounding her abdomen was detected, and surgery was decided. In a successful operation performed by Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. Dr. Osman Fadıl Kara and his team, an 8.5-kilogram mass with a diameter of 30 centimeters was removed from the 38-year-old woman's abdomen.
Akgül, who regained her health, said, "Due to the swelling in my abdomen, I became like a 9-month pregnant woman in 2 months. I couldn't come to the hospital because I was scared. I was having difficulty breathing. I couldn't bend or straighten up. Now, I have regained my health."
"OUR PATIENT'S LIFE WAS SAVED"
Prof. Dr. Kara stated that the mass removed was among the largest he had encountered in his nearly 50-year career, saying, "Despite our patient's late arrival, her life was saved. We removed an 8.5-kilogram ovarian cyst. By cleaning all the lymph nodes, we prevented the progression of her condition. We always have the chance to perform such surgeries. As long as our patients reach out to us without fear for their health," he said.
"GENERAL CHECK-UPS SHOULD BE DONE EVERY 6 MONTHS OR ONCE A YEAR"
Emphasizing that late detection of masses formed in the ovaries or uterus poses life-threatening risks, Kara advised women to have a general check-up with a gynecologist every 6 months or once a year.
