The former mayor of Ataşehir, Battal İlgezdi, is facing charges of "systematic abuse of power" for allegedly failing to enforce demolition orders related to illegal constructions. The prepared indictment seeks prison sentences ranging from 10 months to 3 years and 6 months for İlgezdi and 8 other individuals.
It has been claimed that Battal İlgezdi did not implement the demolition orders for 7 structures built in violation of the building permit during his tenure as the Mayor of Ataşehir, and an indictment was prepared against him for "systematic abuse of office."
The indictment prepared by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Special Crimes Investigation Bureau included a report prepared by the Ministry of Interior's inspectors regarding the illegal constructions in Ataşehir. According to the report, there were some projects in the district that violated the Zoning Law, and it was decided to take action under Article 32, which includes regulations regarding unpermitted or illegally constructed buildings, for some of these projects. However, it was stated that the mayor and officials did not fulfill this decision.
PUBLIC DAMAGE OCCURRED
As a result, the Ministry of Interior granted permission for an investigation against İlgezdi and 8 others on the grounds of abuse of office, and it was mentioned in the indictment that the appeal made to the Council of State was also rejected. It was noted that İlgezdi and the 8 suspects did not implement the demolition orders given by the Municipal Council regarding 7 properties in the district between 2020 and 2022.
The indictment stated that the suspects caused public damage by not eliminating architectural projects and illegal constructions.
PENALTY SOUGHT FOR 9 NAMES
It was requested that Battal İlgezdi, Mahmut Murt, Mehmet Ali Düzova, Sinem Taş, Aysun Gökçen, Cenan Arslan, İlhami Yılmaz, Kalender Özdemir, and Mahmut Benli be sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 10 months to 3 years and 6 months for the crime of "systematic abuse of office." The indictment was sent to the Anadolu Criminal Court of First Instance for evaluation.
