METU students protested the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The students, who marched on the METU campus, held a press statement there. Afterward, students who wanted to march to Kızılay were stopped by the police on Eskişehir Road. As the crowd did not disperse, some students were detained as a result of the ensuing scuffle.
Middle East Technical University (METU) students protested the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
PROTEST DEMONSTRATION BY METU STUDENTS
During their march, university students chanted slogans such as "No salvation, either together or none of us", "We will win by resisting", "The oppression and bans are yours, the struggle is ours", "Universities are ours, they will be liberated with us", "METU is marching, the struggle is growing", "We will win by uniting" and "Oppression cannot intimidate us". After the march that started in front of the METU Dormitory 5, the students held a press statement in front of the 100th Year Market.
STOPPED BY POLICE
After the press statement, students who wanted to leave the METU Campus and walk towards Kızılay were stopped by the police on Eskişehir Road.
SOME STUDENTS WERE DETAINED
As the crowd did not disperse, the police intervened with tear gas by setting up a barricade. As a result of the scuffle, some students were detained.
