Investigation about Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu

As a result of the investigation by the inspectors of the Ministry of Interior, it was determined that Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, the former Mayor of Tunceli, unlawfully hired 145 workers, causing a public loss of 86 million 620 thousand lira. A charge of the same amount was filed against Maçoğlu, and a criminal complaint was made to the prosecutor's office. While Maçoğlu's appeal was rejected, additional fines were imposed on the municipality due to the unlawful hires. The prosecutor's investigation is ongoing.

The Ministry of Interior's provincial inspectors completed their review of Tunceli Municipality. The review indicated that Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, who was elected Mayor from the Turkey Communist Party (TKP) in 2019, caused public damage by hiring workers unlawfully. Maçoğlu was charged with embezzlement of 86 million 620 thousand lira, and a criminal complaint was filed against him.

The investigation initiated by the Ministry of Interior's provincial inspectors at Tunceli Municipality in December of last year was completed in June. The review found that Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, elected as Mayor from TKP, unlawfully hired 145 workers during his term, with the expenses of these workers amounting to 84% of the municipality's income, resulting in public harm. The Ministry of Interior's provincial inspectors filed a criminal complaint with the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Maçoğlu for causing public damage amounting to 86 million 620 thousand lira. Additionally, an embezzlement charge of 86 million 620 thousand lira was issued against Maçoğlu.

APPEAL NOT ACCEPTED

Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu submitted an appeal to Tunceli Municipality with a petition. Maçoğlu's appeal was rejected by Acting Mayor Şefik Aygöl. In an investigation conducted by the İŞKUR Provincial Directorate, it was determined that Tunceli Municipality unlawfully hired 145 workers between 2019 and 2024 without making an announcement or issuing a public notice, resulting in a total fine of 500 thousand lira imposed on the municipality's company. Furthermore, the municipality was warned to make announcements regarding worker hires. The appeal against the fine imposed on the municipality was rejected by the Tunceli Peace Criminal Court.

EMBEZZLEMENT CHARGES FILED AGAINST 2 MORE MAYORS

The investigation also revealed that Cevdet Konak, appointed as a trustee from the DEM Party, was charged with 2 million 84 thousand lira for rehiring 8 workers whom the previous trustee had dismissed. Additionally, Ali İhsan Bayır, who temporarily took over during Maçoğlu's candidacy for Mayor of Kadıköy in Istanbul, was charged with embezzlement of 3 million 206 thousand lira for significantly increasing wages in a collective labor agreement. It was learned that the prosecutor's investigation on the matter is ongoing.
