The White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that the U.S. demands Iran to completely abandon its nuclear program; while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi rejected direct negotiations with the U.S., saying that threats against Iran made negotiations with Washington impossible.
In a statement today, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi rejected direct negotiations with the U.S., saying that the "maximum pressure campaign and threats against Iran" made negotiations with Washington impossible.
HE SAID, "THIS IS OUR CLEAR POLICY"
Arakchi stated, "This is our definite and clear policy. Direct negotiations will not take place as long as there is no fundamental change in the U.S. approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian people," and added that indirect channels are open and Iran will convey its messages through indirect means.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a statement made yesterday during a program he attended on CBS News, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said, "Iran must abandon its nuclear program in a way that the whole world can see... As President Trump said, this issue is reaching a turning point. All options are on the table, and the time has come for Iran to completely abandon its desire to possess nuclear weapons."
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump sent a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, proposing an agreement to prevent Tehran from having nuclear capabilities. Khamenei stated, "The claim of the U.S. president that they are ready for negotiations is a maneuver aimed at deceiving world public opinion," expressing that the U.S. is not sincere about reaching an agreement with Iran.
