Israel destroyed an underground facility in southern Lebanon said to belong to Hezbollah. The statement was made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
ALLEGEDLY USED FOR DRONE PRODUCTION AND STORAGE
According to a statement from the Israeli army, the tunnel in the village of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon was approximately 200 meters long and over 25 meters deep. Israel claimed that the facility was used by Hezbollah for the assembly, storage, and launch of Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles. The same statement noted that journalists were given a tour of the tunnel earlier this month.
US WAS INFORMED IN ADVANCE
In a joint statement, Netanyahu and Katz said that the US and its representative in Lebanon were informed before the tunnel was destroyed.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military (IDF) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the explosion, but had previously warned residents of northern Israel that a loud explosion would be heard.
DESTRUCTION WAS PREVIOUSLY POSTPONED
It was reported that the Israeli army had previously postponed the destruction of the tunnel due to US pressure to halt military activities in southern Lebanon as part of a ceasefire agreement.
