Retired Israeli Major General Yitzhak Brik stated, "The Israeli army could not defeat Hamas; the destruction in Gaza is meant to create a false impression of victory." Brik also expressed that Hamas's military strength has been damaged much less than what Israel has claimed and that it has now regained its former strength.

Retired Major General Yitzhak Brik, who serves as the Chairman of the Complaints Committee in the Israeli Army, wrote an article in Maariv titled "Why Can't the Israeli Army Defeat Hamas?"

"THE DESTRUCTION IN GAZA IS TO CREATE A FALSE IMPRESSION OF VICTORY"

Brik stated that the destruction in Gaza was done "to hide from the public that a real victory has not been achieved," and added, "The Israeli army currently has no capacity to defeat Hamas. Therefore, all this destruction in Gaza is aimed at creating an impression of victory. This impression is reinforced by the political and military leaders misleading the public."

"LESS THAN 10% OF THE TUNNELS IN GAZA HAVE BEEN DESTROYED"

Brik claimed that "members of Hamas are hiding in thousands of underground tunnels, mostly coming out in groups at night to plant mines and traps, and then returning to the tunnels," and noted, "Less than 10% of the tunnels in Gaza have been destroyed over the past one and a half years."

"HAMAS HAS RECOVERED ITS OLD STRENGTH"

Emphasizing that the Israeli army has no capacity to defeat Hamas, Brik also stated that Hamas's military strength has suffered much less damage than Israel has claimed and that it has now regained its former strength.

"ZAMIR HAS PUT HIMSELF IN A 'TRAP'"

Brik stated that Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has put himself in a difficult position by saying he could defeat Hamas. After Zamir's statement, "We will defeat Hamas, we will establish military governance," Brik emphasized that he has now failed to fulfill these words, which he assessed as a "trap" for Zamir.

"THE ISRAELI ARMY WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL"

Additionally, Brik noted that the Israeli army has experienced a significant reduction in military personnel over the last 20 years, stating that the army does not have sufficient military strength to fight Hamas and establish a permanent governance in Gaza. The retired Israeli Major General included in his article, "The Israeli army, in its current state, will not be able to succeed in destroying Hamas and rescuing the hostages."
