The Istanbul Governorship announced that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council will convene on Wednesday, March 26, to elect a Deputy Mayor following the dismissal of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The Governorship also stated that the Municipal Council will meet on the same day at 9 AM to elect a Deputy Mayor to replace the dismissed Beylikdüzü Mayor.

REMOVED FROM OFFICE
Following the arrest decision, the Istanbul Governorship announced that İmamoğlu and Çalık were removed from their positions. In a statement regarding İmamoğlu's removal, the Governorship stated, "In the statement made by the Ministry of Interior regarding the said decision, it was stated that 'Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been arrested based on the decision of the Istanbul 10th Criminal Court of Peace dated 23.03.2025 and inquiry no. 2025/347 for the crimes of Illegally Recording Personal Data, Accepting Bribes, Interfering in the Tender of Public Institutions or Organizations, and Establishing an Organization for the Purpose of Committing Crimes; he has been temporarily suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393'."
IBB ASSEMBLY MEETING
Moreover, the Istanbul Governorship announced that following the removal of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the IBB Assembly will convene on Wednesday, March 26, to elect the Deputy Mayor.
The Governorship also announced that the Municipal Council will meet at 09:00 on the same day to elect a Deputy Mayor to replace the removed Mayor of Beylikdüzü.
The statement made by the Istanbul Governorship is as follows: "Due to the temporary suspension of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık by the Ministry of Interior,
in accordance with the provisions of Article 45 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, the Municipal Councils of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Beylikdüzü will convene to elect a Deputy Mayor;
It has been deemed appropriate by our Governorship for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Assembly to meet on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 13:00,
and for the Beylikdüzü Municipality Assembly to meet on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 09:00 in the Assembly Meeting Hall."
