It has been announced that the Africa Cup of Nations, which is held every two years, will be organized every four years starting from 2028. Additionally, it was stated that the prize money awarded to the winning teams will be increased from 7 million dollars to 10 million dollars.
The 2-star organized Africa Cup of Nations will be held every 4 years after the tournament in 2028.
HISTORICAL CHANGE IN THE AFRICA CUP
Africa Football Confederation (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe stated in a statement that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be held as planned, and another tournament will be organized in 2028 instead of 2029, after which the organization will transition to a new schedule held every 4 years.
PRIZE AMOUNT INCREASED
Motsepe also announced that the prize amount awarded to the winning team of the Africa Cup of Nations has been increased from 7 million dollars to 10 million dollars.
''WE WILL GENERATE FINANCIAL RESOURCES''
Additionally, Motsepe noted that a new tournament called the "Africa Nations League" will be launched, which will be held annually starting from 2029, stating, "Historically, the Africa Cup of Nations has been our most important source of income, but with this new organization, we will now generate financial resources every year."
