Savaş Koç, who was seriously injured by a gunshot to the head in Ankara, won his month-long battle for survival in the hospital. In his testimony at the trial held at the Heavy Penal Court regarding the incident, Koç said, "I played dead, I stayed still. But I could hear everything. I am alive by chance right now."
HE RECEIVED TREATMENT IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A MONTH
The incident occurred on February 18 in the Çankaya district. Fırat Sucuğ went to the workplace of his relative Savaş Koç to meet Alper A. (28), with whom he had a dispute on social media, along with his cousin Erdi S. (33). Savaş Koç, who worked as a courier in the restaurant, got into an argument when he did not reveal his relative's location. Savaş Koç took a shotgun from the trunk of his vehicle. While Erdi S. tried to take the shotgun, Fırat Sucuğ pulled out his pistol and shot him in the head. Savaş Koç, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital. After a month of treatment, Koç regained his health and was discharged. A lawsuit was filed against Fırat Sucuğ, who was detained and arrested, and Erdi S., who was released pending trial, for attempted murder, with a request for life imprisonment at the 35th Heavy Penal Court. While the trial of the defendants continues, security camera footage related to the incident was included in the case file. The footage showed the scuffle between the parties and Fırat Sucuğ shooting Savaş Koç in the head.
"I AM ALIVE BY CHANCE"
In his statement at today's hearing, Savaş Koç said that Fırat Sucuğ, who shot him, and his cousin were also relatives, stating, "He called me while I was going to work and asked about Alper, wanting me to take him home. I did not accept this. He said, 'I will shoot Alper.' At that moment, I went to the workplace. I got tea and went inside. At that moment, two people came. They approached me in front of the door. At that moment, Fırat pulled out a gun from his waist and pointed it at me. He pulled the trigger twice; but it did not fire. Then Fırat had fixed his gun. At that moment, I was trying to protect myself in a panic. In the end, he shot me. I pretended to be dead so that he wouldn't kill me again, I stayed still. But I could hear everything. I mean, I want justice to be served right now. I want them to receive the punishment they deserve. I am alive by chance right now. If that bullet had gone in one more centimeter, I might not be standing here right now," he said.
HE ESCAPED BY PRETENDING TO BE DEAD
Savaş Koç's lawyer, Ali Erdem Gündoğan, stated, "The defendant is firing at my client's head. The bullet remains in the skull without causing too much damage to the brain. My client is aware of everything while falling to the ground and says, 'I was seeing everything at that moment; but I stayed still, thinking that they shouldn't shoot me again,' pretending to be dead. Later, these individuals are caught. My client says that they came with the intent to kill him. In fact, my client sacrificed himself for another person. If he had given that person's address, they would have shot that person. Because he did not give the address, they shot my client," he said. The court, which decided to continue the defendant's detention, postponed the trial for the deficiencies to be addressed.
