Abalı brand strained flower honey, which is widely sold online and in virtual markets, has also been added to the food fraud disclosure list updated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It was determined that the products of the Ankara Akyurt-based company were adulterated by adding substances of unequal value (glucose/sugar syrup).
A popular honey brand widely sold on the internet and in chain markets has also been added to the disclosure list where the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announces adulterated foods. Fraud was detected in the "Abalı" brand strained flower honey.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry updated its "Foods Subject to Adulteration or Misbranding" list published at guvenilirgida.tarimorman.gov.tr. The fraud committed in a honey brand with a very wide distribution network, from supermarket shelves to e-commerce giants, was announced to the public.
FRAUD IN ABALI BRAND STRAINED FLOWER HONEY!
According to the Ministry's latest update dated August 20, 2026, it was determined that adulteration and misbranding were carried out in the "Abalı" brand strained flower honey product belonging to Hastürk Gıda Otomotiv İnşaat Emlak Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. and Vahit Yıldız Balsu – Vahit Yıldız companies operating in the Akyurt district of Ankara. While the expiration date of the product added to the list was recorded as 12/09/2027, the type of fraud was officially recorded as "Addition of Substances Not Bearing the Same Value".
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
In food legislation, this definition means that the natural and valuable content of the product is reduced and replaced with much cheaper and lower quality substances. In honey products, this fraud is usually carried out using the following methods:
- Adding glucose syrup and fructose to real honey,
- Increasing volume with starch-based sweeteners or sugar syrups.
In this way, while the consumer thinks they are buying healing and natural honey, they are actually purchasing a sugary syrup whose content has been completely altered.
FLYING OFF THE SHELVES ON E-COMMERCE SITES
It was observed that the Abalı brand, whose adulteration has been confirmed, is being sold extensively on Turkey's leading largest e-commerce platforms and digital markets. It was also determined that the company makes direct sales to consumers through its own official website.
Authorities from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry reminded consumers to regularly check the Safe Food Portal when shopping for food and to report any suspicious situations they encounter to the ALO 174 Food Hotline.
