According to Guinness World Records, following the death of 117-year-old Maria Branyas, the title of "the oldest person in the world" passed to 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka. Of Japanese descent, Itooka is recognized as the oldest person in the world with this new title.

Tomiko Itooka, born on May 23, 1908, has had her age verified by the Gerontology Research Group in the United States. With this confirmation, she has secured the top spot on the list of the oldest people aged 110 and above.
