A fraud ring that deceived citizens in Bursa with promises of 'jobs, scholarships, and easy money' to seize their bank accounts was dismantled in an operation where police posed as buyers. In an operation reminiscent of movie scenes, 4 suspects were detained, and 2 of them, believed to be the ringleaders, were arrested.
Teams from the Fraud Bureau of the Bursa Provincial Police Department's Public Order Branch identified an organized network that used citizens' bank accounts for fraud as part of their efforts to combat cyber and financial crimes. A victim who applied to the police stated that individuals they met online opened bank accounts in their name, which were used for fraudulent activities, leading to multiple lawsuits being filed against them, and requested assistance.
THEY WERE DECEIVED WITH PROMISES OF JOBS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Technical and physical surveillance revealed that network members convinced people they reached online with promises of "job opportunities," "scholarship support," and "easy earnings," then seized their bank accounts and mobile banking information. The seized accounts were found to be used for illegal money transfers and various fraud cases.
POLICE CONTACTED THE NETWORK AS A BUYER
Teams from the Fraud Bureau, tracking the suspects, employed a notable method for the operation. Police posing as buyers contacted network members, taking on the role of a 'second person' accompanying the one looking to rent an account, and arranged a meeting.
4 SUSPECTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
In a raid following tracking from Bursa to Istanbul, four suspects named H.İ., B.A., K.A., and S.A. were caught and taken into custody.
The suspects, brought to Bursa after being caught in Istanbul, were referred to the courthouse after police procedures. The court released K.A. and S.A. under judicial supervision, while H.İ. and B.A., considered the network's leaders, were arrested and sent to prison.
