According to data compiled by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), electric car sales in Turkey have surpassed 100,000 for the first time. In the first seven months of the year, there was a decrease of 23.8% in gasoline car sales and a 21.7% drop in diesel car sales, while a 5.2% increase was recorded in autogas vehicles.

In the Turkish automobile market, 266,095 gasoline cars and 153,363 hybrid cars were sold. The number of diesel car sales was 45,678, while the number of autogas car sales was 3,752. The sales of fully electric cars, which operate solely on electricity, were recorded at 102,160.

GASOLINE AND DIESEL CAR SALES ARE DECREASING

In the first seven months of the year, there was a decrease of 23.8% in gasoline car sales and 21.7% in diesel sales, while autogas sales recorded an increase of 5.2%. During this period, hybrid car sales increased by 92.4%, and fully electric car sales rose by 146.9%. The main reason for the decline in diesel car sales is reported to be the ongoing process of global manufacturers ending diesel car production, resulting in no new diesel cars being offered to the market.

THE MARKET SHARE OF ELECTRIC CARS HAS INCREASED TO 17.9%

The share of gasoline cars in sales, which was 65.1% in the January-July period of last year, decreased to 46.5% in the same period this year. During this period, the share of diesel cars fell from 10.9% to 8%, while the share of autogas cars remained the same at 0.7%.

In the same period, the share of total sales for fully electric cars increased from 7.7% to 17.9%, and for hybrids, it rose from 14.9% to 26.8%.

When considering cars as fully electric, extended range electric, and hybrid, it was observed that 44.9% of the total market consisted of vehicles with electric motors, with total sales reaching 256,673. Thus, 4 out of every 10 cars sold in Turkey were electric or hybrid vehicles.

In the same period, plug-in hybrids among hybrid vehicles reached 30,013 sales, holding a 5.2% share. The increase compared to the same period last year was 1499%.

In July, a total of 17,225 "fully electric" cars were sold. The market share of these cars in July was calculated to be 20.5%. In the same month, 21,656 hybrid cars were sold, and the market share of these vehicles was recorded at 25.7%.
