Core consumer prices rise 2.1% year on year, above central bank target.

Japan's core annual consumer inflation reached 2.1% in April, above the central bank target of 2% for the first time in seven years, official data showed on Friday.

The national core consumer price index increased for the eighth month in a row amid the high fuel costs and weak yen, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

The country's annual consumer inflation increased 2.5% from a year ago.

Energy prices jumped 19.1% year-on-year, while mobile communication fees decreased 22.5%. -
