Famous singer and actress Jennifer Lopez raised her voice against the racist rhetoric in the Trump campaign. Lopez, who supports Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, stood alongside other celebrities like Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce in support of Harris. In the final weeks of the campaign, Harris held rallies in three key states (North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin). At the rally in Madison Square Garden, Lopez accompanied Harris and reacted to the recent racist statements made by the Trump campaign. The controversy began when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating garbage island." Following this incident, it was claimed that President Biden called Trump supporters "garbage." While Biden denied these allegations, Trump made light of the situation by staging a demonstration in a garbage collector's outfit on a garbage truck. Lopez, of Puerto Rican descent, shared her experiences as a Latina woman at the rally in Las Vegas, saying: "Trump has shown us his true thoughts. These words were an insult not only to Puerto Ricans but to the entire Latin community. I am Puerto Rican and I was born here; we are Americans too. As a mother and an artist, I am raising my voice. I want good people to win." Lopez continued her remarks: "We must show our emotions. We should be sad, scared, and angry. Because our pain, our existence, and our vote matter. Women have the power to make a difference in this election." Other Puerto Rican celebrities also reacted against Trump. Latin music star Bad Bunny supported Harris's Puerto Rico policies, while Ricky Martin expressed his reaction on social media, saying, "Here is their perspective." Previously supportive of Trump, reggaeton singer Nicky Jam also withdrew his support, stating, "Puerto Rico should be respected." These developments occurred during the time when Harris criticized Trump's statement, "We will protect them whether women want it or not." Harris stated that Trump's words represented an "extremely aggressive" attitude that disregards women's rights over their own bodies and lives.
