As millions turn their eyes to the extraordinary congress that CHP will hold on Sunday, April 6, the question of whether former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will be a candidate remains a matter of curiosity.

PUT AN END TO THE DEBATES

Kılıçdaroğlu, who was reported in some media outlets as saying "he would not be a candidate if he does not get 600 signatures," put an end to the debates with his statement to Muharrem Sarıkaya from Habertürk.

"THEY SAID LESS, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER 800"

In response to the question "Will you be a candidate at the congress?" Kılıçdaroğlu replied, "No, sir. I am not a candidate."

When asked about the claim that he could be a candidate if the number of signatures reached 600, Kılıçdaroğlu humorously stated, "They said less. If I wanted it, why should it be less? It should have been at least 750-800... They said less, it should have been over 800."

COUNTDOWN FOR THE CONGRESS HAS BEGUN

CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress will convene on Sunday, April 6, at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center of Yenimahalle Municipality with the slogan "The will belongs to the nation." CHP has 1,323 registered congress delegates. The delegates will elect the Chairman, as well as 60 Party Council (PM) and 15 High Disciplinary Board (YDK) members at the congress.

REQUIREMENT FOR 10 DELEGATES' SIGNATURES

To be a candidate for the Chairman of CHP, at least 5% of the total number of delegate members must submit a written application to the Chairmanship. The Chairman is elected by secret ballot at the congress with a simple majority of the total number of members. If no result is obtained in the first two votes, the candidate with the most votes is elected in the third vote. To be eligible to run for PM membership, which is the most authoritative body after the congress, the signatures of 10 delegates are required.

COMPLIANCE WITH GENDER AND YOUTH QUOTAS IS EXPECTED

In the CHP party statute, it is stated that "The rule in elections is the open list." However, it is also possible to conduct elections by block list method upon the written proposal of 1/10 of the total number of congress members before moving on to the agenda's working report and discussions. The block list includes the main and substitute PM and YDK candidates to be elected, presented by the candidates for Chairman. According to the statute, compliance with gender and youth quotas is expected in this list.

Preparations for the congress to be held at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center are also ongoing. While sound, lighting, and stage organization works continue, necessary arrangements are being made for the transportation and accommodation of the delegates. It has been announced that no audience will be allowed at CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress due to the physical conditions of the hall. It is planned to create working areas for press members in the foyer area during the congress.
