One of the most important directors in the history of cinema, David Lynch, passed away at the age of 78. HIS FAMILY ANNOUNCEDThe news of the famous director's death was announced by his family on social media. The statement included, "There is a great void in the world now that he is no longer with us. But as he said, 'Keep your eye not on the hole but on the pastry.'" HE HAD BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH EMPHYSEMALynch had stated in recent months that he was diagnosed with "emphysema" due to his lifelong smoking and could no longer leave his home. The famous director said, "I can only walk a short distance before I run out of oxygen." HE LEFT BEHIND MASTERPIECESLynch left behind famous works that blend elements of horror, film noir, and classic European surrealism, contributing masterpieces to cinema history such as Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, Lost Highway, and Twin Peaks. HE RECEIVED MANY AWARDSThroughout his career, Lynch received numerous awards and nominations, including three Academy Award nominations for 'Best Director' and one nomination for 'Best Screenplay.'
