The UK-based newspaper Financial Times wrote about Bashar al-Assad's final days. According to the newspaper, which compiled more than a dozen interviews with people familiar with the regime and the family's maneuvers, Assad left the city a day before its fall, boarding a Russian armored vehicle with his son Hafez. Moscow kept Assad and his son waiting at the base until 4 AM on December 8 and allowed them to seek refuge in Russia on humanitarian grounds. Shortly after this leave, the journey to Moscow began. HE SAID EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE UNTIL AN HOUR BEFORE FLEEINGAccording to the Financial Times, it was reported that Assad did not inform his relatives, including his cousins, brothers, nephews, and his wife's family, when he left Damascus. A person who knew about Assad's departure from Damascus said, "He fled like a dog at night. Until an hour before fleeing, he was telling those around him that everything would be fine."
