The English Football Association has launched an investigation into Hull City, owned by Acun Ilıcalı, due to discriminatory chants during the Chelsea match. The association argues that the club has failed to prevent fan misconduct, and Hull City must submit its defense by June 2.
Hull City, owned by Acun Ilıcalı, has come to the forefront with an investigation launched by the English Football Association (FA). The FA has initiated an official inquiry into the yellow-and-black club due to the events that took place in the stands during the match against Chelsea in February. The club is required to submit its defense regarding the allegations to the FA by Tuesday, June 2.
The FA Cup match, in which Hull City lost 4-0 to Chelsea at home, drew attention for stand incidents that overshadowed the score. During the first half of the match, warning announcements were made to fans via the stadium speakers after discriminatory chants rose from the stands. Following the incidents, security forces and club officials launched an investigation, and four individuals suspected of making discriminatory statements were taken into custody.
FA CHARGES THE CLUB
In the indictment prepared by the English Football Association, it was alleged that Hull City failed to prevent the behavior of its fans. The FA argued that the club was unable to take the necessary measures to prevent chants that targeted sexual orientation and were aggressive and insulting in nature.
STRONG REACTION FROM CHELSEA PRIDE
One of the strongest statements regarding the incidents came from Chelsea's official LGBT+ fan group, Chelsea Pride. The statement noted that Chelsea fans were the target of homophobic chants, emphasizing that Hull City's announcements and security measures were important but the incidents were unacceptable. The statement also said, "It is a disgrace for football that such chants can still be heard in stadiums in 2026."
HULL CITY'S DEFENSE AWAITED
Following the investigation launched by the FA, attention has turned to Hull City's management. After the club submits its defense against the allegations made by the FA, a final decision on the process is expected to be announced.
