Heavy downpours and hail affecting Hatay and Osmaniye have negatively impacted daily life. In Hatay, homes and roads were flooded after streams overflowed, while in Osmaniye, agricultural lands were damaged due to flooding, and some roads and retaining walls collapsed. Teams continue water drainage and damage assessment efforts in both provinces.

Following the yellow code warning from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, heavy downpours and hail affected Hatay. The rainfall, which intensified particularly in the coastal areas of the city since the night hours, caused flooding in the Dörtyol district.

The Deliçay stream in the Kuzuculu neighborhood of Dörtyol overflowed due to excessive rainfall. Along with the flood, water inundated some houses, streets, and roads near the stream. Local residents experienced difficult moments due to sudden floods.

STREETS TURNED INTO LAKES, VEHICLES DAMAGED

After the heavy downpour, roads in some parts of the district were quickly covered with water. Some vehicles on the flooded streets broke down, and many parked cars were damaged by the floodwaters.

Due to the floodwater flowing towards the coast, the sea turned brown. Landslides occurred in some areas of the overflowing stream basins.

BRIDGE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC

In the Dörtyol district, the bridge connecting Çaylı neighborhood and Yeşilköy neighborhood was closed to traffic due to the increased flow of the stream caused by excessive rainfall.

Teams took safety precautions around the bridge, which began to be covered with water. Authorities warned citizens to be cautious against possible new floods in the area.

THOSE COMING FOR THE HOLIDAY FACED DIFFICULTIES

Citizens who came to their seaside summer houses for the Eid al-Adha holiday also experienced hardship due to the flood. Those caught unprepared by the rain faced difficult moments in daily life due to flooded roads and overflowing streams.

In the Defne district, heavy rain and hail were also effective, causing water accumulations on some streets and roads. Drivers had difficulty proceeding in traffic.

HE RISKED HIS LIFE FOR FIREWOOD

In Hatay, where the meteorological service had issued a severe rain warning, rainy weather affected the coastal areas of the city from the night hours. The Deliçay stream in the Kuzuculu neighborhood of Dörtyol overflowed due to excessive rainfall. A person trying to collect firewood carried by the water in the rising stream risked his life. It was noteworthy that the citizen ignored warnings from those around him and removed the firewood from the stream.

ROADS ALSO COLLAPSED IN OSMANİYE

The rainy weather in the Eastern Mediterranean also affected the Düziçi district of Osmaniye. Due to heavy rain and hail, streams overflowed and agricultural lands were damaged.

Collapses occurred on some village roads and retaining walls of houses. Municipal teams started water drainage and damage assessment studies in the regions.

TEAMS STARTED WORK ON THE GROUND

Municipal teams initiated drainage efforts on flooded streets, roads, houses, and workplaces. While safety measures were taken at risky points, citizens were asked to stay away from stream beds with flood risk.

Due to the flood disaster in Hatay, teams continue their work in the region.
