In the Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat, 26-year-old Emre Sarıaslan planted 1,200 roots of salep and saffron in his garden as a trial. Testing 8 different salep varieties to determine the most productive types suited to the region's climate, Sarıaslan works in coordination with the Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Stating that he will not sell the tubers from the harvest in mid-June but will replant them to expand his business, the young entrepreneur aims to pave the way for alternative agriculture in the region.

26-year-old young entrepreneur Emre Sarıaslan from Yozgat is drawing attention with his salep production trial in his village garden. Sarıaslan, who is working in Poyrazlı village in the Boğazlıyan district, has planted approximately 1,200 salep roots in the soil for trial purposes.

Stating that he is working on different species to improve salep production, Sarıaslan said they are observing which species will be more productive in the region. The young entrepreneur, who mentioned that he bought each salep root for 20 liras last year, continues his work in his family's home garden.

"8 DIFFERENT SALEP SPECIES TRIED"

Describing his work on salep production, Emre Sarıaslan said they are observing the adaptation of species obtained from different regions to Yozgat's climate, and stated: "This year, we have worked on both salep and saffron in our garden in Poyrazlı village of Boğazlıyan district in Yozgat. For salep, we tried eight different species from three different regions and three different sellers. Some species adapted to our region, some did not. In the coming seasons, we will continue our work with the species that have adapted."

"IT LOVES DRAINED SOIL"

Stating that soil preparation is important in salep production, Sarıaslan described the planting process as follows: "Our planting time for both salep and saffron is the same. We did our planting in mid-August. Both start in the same period, with work beginning. We prepared the soil. We shape the soil for both in a raised bed form. They both like drained soil, as they are tuber and bulb roots."

"WILL BE REPLANTED AFTER HARVEST"

Stating that they will harvest in June, Sarıaslan said they will use the obtained tubers for reproduction instead of sale. Sarıaslan said, "We will do our harvest on the fifteenth of June. Normally, sales start according to the regions after harvest. But I will keep all the tubers for planting in the next season to expand my garden entirely. We will store them in crates, outside the soil, after harvest, and when the season comes, around the fifteenth of August, we will come and plant them in the soil again. If we want, we can keep them in the soil, but we can store them more safely and efficiently in our own storage conditions."

Stating that they carry out their work in coordination with agricultural authorities, Sarıaslan said, "We conducted our work in coordination with the Yozgat Provincial Agriculture Directorate and Boğazlıyan District Agriculture. They also come from time to time, make their inspections, and are with us during harvest and planting times."
