The November rates for mandatory traffic insurance, which directly affects millions of vehicle owners in Turkey, have been announced. While there is an average increase of 1% across all vehicle groups, heavy penalties will be imposed on those who drive without insurance.

1% INCREASE FOR ALL VEHICLE GROUPS
According to data published by the Insurance Information Center (SBM), an average premium increase of 1% has been made for all vehicle groups. The increase covers all motor vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, taxis, buses, and tractors.
CURRENT PREMIUM AMOUNTS IN MAJOR CITIES
With the new regulation, a car driver in the 4th tier in Istanbul will pay at least 14,991 TL in premiums before hitting the road. This amount was 14,763 TL in October and 14,612 TL in September. The premium for drivers in the 0th tier, which has the highest risk level in the city, has risen to 44,733 TL, while the premium for the lowest risk 8th tier drivers has been set at 7,456 TL. Similarly, in Ankara, these figures range from 43,467 TL to 7,245 TL, and in Izmir, they range from 42,201 TL to 7,034 TL.
COSTS HAVE INCREASED FOR COMMERCIAL TAXIS AS WELL
The November tariff has also affected commercial vehicle owners. In Istanbul, the premium for taxis in the 0th tier has risen to 117,861 TL, while the amount for the lowest risk group, the 8th tier taxi drivers, is 19,644 TL. In Ankara, the premium range is reported to be between 114,526 TL and 19,088 TL, while in Izmir, it is between 111,190 TL and 18,532 TL.
HIGHEST INCREASE IN BUS INSURANCE
According to NTV, the most costly vehicle group in mandatory traffic insurance remains buses. In Istanbul, the premium for buses with a capacity of 31 seats or more has reached 282,495 TL in the 0th tier. The premium amount for the same vehicle in the 8th tier has been recorded as 46,136 TL.
HEAVY PENALTY
On the other hand, the penalty amount to be applied for those driving without insurance in the new year has been set at 993 TL. Vehicles found to be uninsured during inspections will be penalized with a fine and will also be banned from traffic.
