A 44-year-old woman named Zeynep G., who poured 3 liters of hot oil on her husband while he was sleeping in Üsküdar, Istanbul, stated in her testimony, "On the night of the incident, he sexually assaulted me. He would do this even in front of our daughter, and I was fed up. When he fell asleep, I went to the kitchen, took about 3 liters of sunflower oil, poured it into a pot, and heated it. Zeynep G. (44), who lives in Üsküdar, injured her husband Sinan Gürsül (53) by pouring hot oil on him while he was sleeping, claiming that he had been violent towards her. Sinan Gürsül passed away in the hospital after 13 days of treatment. Zeynep G., who was taken into custody, was arrested and sent to prison. In her statement to the judge, Zeynep G. said, "My husband is an alcoholic. I have been subjected to violence from him since the day we got married. He constantly threatened me with taking my children and killing my family. On the night of the incident, I took the oil. I put my daughter to bed. I waited for him to fall asleep. I boiled the oil and poured it on my husband," she said.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 15, Wednesday, at a house on Varol Street in the Ünalan neighborhood of Üsküdar. According to allegations, Sinan Gürsül, who had been experiencing severe marital discord for a while, started arguing with his wife Zeynep G. after coming home drunk. The couple, who had been married for 25 years, ended their argument after a while, and Sinan Gürsül went to sleep. Zeynep G. poured the hot oil she had boiled in the kitchen onto her sleeping husband Sinan G. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification. Medical teams took the injured Sinan Gürsül to the hospital. Zeynep G., who carried out the act, was taken into custody by the police.

Zeynep G., who stated that she had been beaten since the early years of her marriage, said in her statement, "My ribs were broken, I received treatment multiple times. I wanted to separate, but he threatened me with my family and children. On the day of the incident, he came home drunk again and insulted me, then went to sleep. When he fell asleep, I went to the kitchen, there was about 3 liters of sunflower oil, I poured it into a pot and heated it. Then I poured it on him while he was sleeping. He got up and started screaming. I slapped him twice and left the house," she said. Zeynep G., a mother of two, was arrested and sent to prison.

In her statement to the judge, arrested wife Zeynep G. said, "I have been married for 25 years. My husband is an alcoholic. I have been subjected to violence from him since the day we got married. I filed for divorce twice, but he did not allow it. I returned to my family's house, but I had to go back for my children. He constantly threatened me with taking my children and killing my family. On the night of the incident, he sexually abused me. My husband drinks alcohol every day. He would constantly sexually abuse me, and the incidents would happen in front of my daughter. I am fed up with all of this. My daughter has also told these incidents to her guidance counselor. On the night of the incident, I took the oil. I put my daughter to bed. I waited for her to fall asleep. I boiled the oil and poured it on my husband," she said.

Sinan Gürsül, who was treated in the hospital for 13 days, passed away on October 28 despite all interventions.
