Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who will not be a candidate in the primary elections that the CHP will hold to determine its presidential candidate, has not closed the door on a presidential candidacy. Yavaş stated, "If there is a demand, we will evaluate it."
The application period for the primary election to be held on March 23 for the presidential candidacy in the CHP has ended. Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, who received signatures from 116 members of parliament for the primary election, will enter the primary as the sole candidate. Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara, who is known to want to be a presidential candidate, stated that he does not find it right to determine the presidential candidate early and that the only method for determining a candidate should not be the primary election, and he had communicated to CHP Leader Özgür Özel and İmamoğlu that he would not participate in the primary.
THE QUESTION OF 100 THOUSAND SIGNATURES
After these developments, how Yavaş will proceed has become a matter of curiosity. In response to the question, "Yesterday was the last day for the application for the presidential candidacy. What will your roadmap be? Will we say you have given up your candidacy, or will you collect 100 thousand signatures and announce your candidacy?" Yavaş gave the following answer:
"IT WILL BE EVALUATED WHEN THE TIME COMES"
"It is too early to talk about these things. In the last meeting we held together, we discussed all alternatives. These alternatives will always be on the agenda. Right now, there is no date for early elections; it is too early to talk about these things. I had also told our esteemed Chairman and Mr. Ekrem in the meeting: We no longer have the right to run for candidacy on our own. Whatever decision society makes when the time comes, if there is a demand, we will evaluate it. While saying this, you will never find me in any images that suggest division or disagreement within the party. These are things that will be evaluated when the time comes."
