ATTENTION-GRABBING STATEMENT FROM MANSUR YAVAŞ
During the rally, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş also spoke. Yavaş made a striking statement during his speech.
Recalling the police distributing cotton candy to those attending the Nevruz event held in the Cizre district of Şırnak a few days ago, Yavaş said, "Yesterday, while flags that I consider to be rags were waved somewhere in the east, cotton candies were given to those attending that rally."
Yavaş also stated, "We expect the security forces to offer cotton candy to the young people here."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects for the crimes of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender." İmamoğlu was detained within the scope of these investigations.
Following the detention decision, numerous protest demonstrations were held in many cities, and tense moments occurred between the police and demonstrators at times.
