Master actress Fatma Karanfil was bid farewell to her final journey.

Fatma Karanfil, the veteran actress who portrayed the character Şayeste in the series Aşk-ı Memnu, passed away at the age of 72. Karanfil, who had been undergoing cancer treatment for a long time, was laid to rest in Feriköy Cemetery after the funeral prayer held at Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent. It was also noticed that there was a low attendance at Karanfil's funeral.

After undergoing cancer treatment for a while and being intubated on May 25th, Fatma Karanfil, who played Şayeste in the TV series Aşk-ı Memnu, passed away at the age of 72. A funeral ceremony was held for the veteran actress at Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque.

Karanfil's nieces Aslı Karanfil, Elif Karanfil, and their spouses and children accepted condolences. The ceremony was attended by family members, as well as Tamer Karadağlı, the General Director of State Theatres, Birol Güven, the General Director of Cinema at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, actress Hülya Koçyiğit, actress Pınar Altuğ, and their fans.

"WE LEARNED THAT CANCER HAD SPREAD COMPLETELY IN 1.5 MONTHS"

Elif Karanfil, who accepted condolences, said, "She had cancer, but it had recurred and she had no symptoms. We learned that cancer had spread completely in the last 1.5 months. Unfortunately, we are here today. In a 1.5-month period, first tests, then hospital, intensive care, and intubation, you all knew. Unfortunately, we lost her within 10 days."

"SHE WAS A DIAMOND-LIKE PERSON"

Tamer Karadağlı, the General Director of State Theatres, who did not leave Fatma Karanfil alone on her final journey in the TV series Çocuklar Duymasın, said, "We are very sad, we are losing our values one by one. Fatma sister was someone I knew closely. We worked together for a long time. We worked together in 'Çocuklar Duymasın.' She played the mother of the dominant aunt, and we laughed a lot. She was a diamond-like person. She was very professional, very cheerful, full of life, and an exemplary actress."

"SHE WAS LIKE A SISTER TO ME"

Birol Güven, the General Director of Cinema at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said, "We are very sad. Our paths crossed in 2002. You know, she played one of our important roles in 'Çocuklar Duymasın.' Then our contact was never cut off. We also had a sisterly relationship. We really loved each other, but unfortunately, when I learned about her illness, she had already been intubated, and I couldn't see her. We lost her in a very short time. May she rest in peace, we are very sad."

"I SPOKE; SHE GAVE ME A GREETING WITH HER EYES"

Hülya Koçyiğit, one of the important actors of Turkish cinema, said, "Today, we are bidding farewell to one of the shining stars of Turkish cinema. She left behind glimmers and another one of our stars has fallen. She was such a beautiful person. She left such beautiful memories with us, may her soul rest in peace. May God have mercy on her. I wish patience to all her loved ones and those she left behind. We loved her very much. Unfortunately, I visited her in the hospital when she was intubated. We said goodbye there, I spoke, and she greeted me with her eyes. She said, 'Goodbye.' May she rest in peace, our condolences to all of us."

"WE ARE HERE TO FULFILL OUR LAST DUTY"

Pınar Altuğ, who acted together with Fatma Karanfil in the TV series 'Çocuklar Duymasın,' said, "She was very precious to all of us. Losses always hurt a lot. Fatma sister was someone who had a special place in my heart. Because I was 17 years old when I met Fatma sister, I was even younger. They were working in the same workplace as my mother. Then, when I started my first modeling job, I worked as a fitting model in the textile company where she worked. So, I was very young when we first met. Years later, when we thought of casting a mother for Zeyno in 'Çocuklar Duymasın,' I said to Birol, 'There is someone who looks just like her, I know her.' At that time, we knocked on Fatma sister's door. We had the opportunity to work together for many years. It is, of course, very sad to be here today. I hadn't seen her for a while. After I heard that she was ill, there was no chance to see her. Unfortunately, in the hustle and bustle of life, sometimes we skip and drift away from certain things. We all work separately, we all rush separately. We are here to fulfill our last duty."

LOW ATTENDANCE

After starting her career in 1968 by ranking 3rd in a competition held by Ses magazine, Fatma Karanfil appeared in important Yeşilçam films such as Keloğlan, Mavi Boncuk, as well as TV series like Aşk-ı Memnu and Çocuklar Duymasın. Her funeral took place at Feriköy Cemetery after the funeral prayer performed after the midday prayer. The low attendance at Karanfil's funeral revealed the ingratitude of the art community.
