Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in her book recounting her memories from her time in office, included a recipe for lentil soup she made during her chancellorship and also revealed the names of two Turkish individuals who made her very happy.
Interesting details continue to emerge from Angela Merkel's book 'Freedom', in which the former Chancellor of Germany shares her memories from her time in office between 2005 and 2021. In her 736-page book, Merkel recounts interesting moments from her chancellorship and writes that she loves lentil soup.
SHE USED TO PREPARE HER OWN LUNCHES
Merkel wrote that during her time in office, she prepared her own lunches in the chancellery, stating, "I would prepare lunch with my colleagues at the chancellery. After long flights or late-night meetings, chicken, potatoes, and lentil soup were very comforting."
TWO TURKS MADE HER VERY HAPPY
Merkel expressed that she was very happy during the Covid period thanks to Turkish-German scientists Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci, writing:
"They came to the rescue like a godsend. This vaccine rose like the sun for our country. In a few months, more than 70% of the EU population was vaccinated. I was also in the risk group. I am grateful to them."
