Millions in Turkey are focused on the inflation figures that will be announced tomorrow. Beyond the increase in civil servant and pensioner salaries, there will be price hikes affecting many items. With the increase in special consumption tax (ÖTV), a rise of 2.10 TL is expected for gasoline, 1.97 TL for diesel, and 1.61 TL for LPG, while it is claimed that the price of a pack of cigarettes will increase by around 10 TL.
Everyone is focused on the inflation figures to be announced on July 3rd. Beyond the increase in civil servant and pensioner salaries, there will be increases affecting many items. Changes will occur in the 65-year-old pension, disability pensions, the cap on severance pay, as well as in the prices of fuel, alcoholic beverages, and cigarettes.
THE INCREASE WILL OCCUR AUTOMATICALLY
With the inflation data to be announced tomorrow, the increase in the Special Consumption Tax will occur automatically. Unless President Erdoğan makes a different decision regarding the matter, the SCT increases will be immediately reflected in prices.
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN FUEL PRICES IS ON THE WAY
There will be an automatic price increase for fuel products such as gasoline, diesel, and LPG. Based on the estimate that the 6-month YI-ÜFE will be 14.61%, it is expected that gasoline will increase by 2 lira 10 kuruş, diesel by 1 lira 97 kuruş, and LPG by 1 lira 61 kuruş.
A 10 LIRA PRICE INCREASE IS EXPECTED FOR CIGARETTES
It is expected that there will be a price increase of 8-10 lira for a pack of cigarettes. The SCT increase will also apply to alcoholic beverages. Accordingly, if the SCT on one liter of raki, which is currently 1365.72 lira, increases by 14.61%, it will see an increase of 199.5 lira and rise to 1565 lira. In other words, for a raki with an alcohol content of 45%, 704 lira will be the SCT.
HOW IS IT DETERMINED?
The rates that will cause the SCT increase are determined based on the monthly cumulative totals of the YI-ÜFE figures. From January to May, the YI-ÜFE was realized at 12.92%. For June, an increase of between 1% and 2% is expected. In other words, if the PPI is announced at 1.5% in June, the prices of fuel, cigarettes, and alcoholic products will automatically increase by 14.61%.
