Mesut Hançer, who is remembered for the photo of him holding his daughter’s hand under the rubble during the earthquakes on February 6, shared his experiences. Hançer stated that the pain of losing his daughter never fades, saying, "February 6 never passes. It gets worse and worse day by day. We are waiting for my daughter from every direction. The thought of her coming back never leaves our minds."
The pain of Mesut Hançer, the father who came to the forefront with the photo of him holding his daughter’s hand under the rubble in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquakes described as "the disaster of the century" on February 6, 2023, remains as fresh as the first day.
VISITED HIS DAUGHTER'S GRAVE ON THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE EARTHQUAKE
The grieving father Hançer, who is etched in memory with the photo of him holding the hand of his 16-year-old daughter Irmak Leyla Hançer, who was trapped under the rubble in Ebrar Site, visited his daughter's grave on the second anniversary of the earthquake.
"THE FIRE NEVER GOES OUT"
Father Hançer stated that they are still experiencing the effects of the February 6 earthquakes. Expressing that they have not been able to overcome those days, Hançer said, "It has been 2 years today. The fire never goes out; it only flares up worse. We constantly visit my daughter's grave. It is a very difficult thing, a pain that never goes away."
"IT EVEN FEELS VERY HARD FOR HER TO LIE HERE"
Stating that he had a very good relationship with his daughter, Hançer said, "Right now, we are planting flowers at my child's grave and watering them. We prayed for her; my daughter did not live long enough. It even feels very hard for her to lie here. We did not expect it to be like this. February 6 never passes. We are getting worse day by day. We are waiting for (my daughter) from every direction. It doesn’t leave our sight, waiting for her to come back."
